My Personal Story
Although I was born in America, I grew up in a traditional Vietnamese home. I celebrated all the holidays, followed all the traditions, and speak the language fluently. My mother took me to the local temple to learn to speak and write Vietnamese. Each Lunar Calender New Year, I would participate in all the Tet festivities including: the dragon dance, traditional dances, and costume runway. Attending school in America has also exposed me to the Western culture. I find myself weaving in and out of both cultures, yet still stressing the importance of remaining close ties to my Vietnamese roots.
